Foreign Affairs Secretary Teddy Locsin claims he completely and promptly responded with a diplomatic note on all reports of Chinese vessel incursions in the country’s territorial waters.
“Every transgression and incursion by Chinese, even mere suspicions, have been reported to me by (National Security Adviser) General (Hermogenes) Esperon. I always craft a diplomatic note for every single one without fail,” said Locsin in an interview with ANC.
Locsin issued the statement to debunk claims that the Duterte administration has been treating China with kid gloves as part of President Rodrigo Duterte’s default stand to appease Chinese President Xi Jinping.
Locsin, however, recalled that there was only one time that he failed to react to a reported sighting of a Chinese vessel inside the country’s waters.
This was in October 2018 or shortly after he took his current post.
“ABS-CBN had a kindof vague picture of what might have been Chinese activity in our waters. I told the ABS-CBN correspondent, ‘You know your bosses are very rich, they have their own private jets. Why don’t they lend you that so I can get a clearer picture of what you are asking me to comment on,” said Locsin, who used to have a program on the media giant.
