Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro “Teddyboy” Locsin paid tribute to former Foreign Affairs Secretary Perfecto Yasay Jr., who died Friday (June 12) at the age of 73.
Locsin revealed in a tweet that it was Yasay who recommended him to become the Philippine Representative of the Philippines to the United Nations.

“’Jun Yasay has donned the garment of immortality,’ text said. More important it makes him finally impervious to pain. He recommended me for my UN job. He hurt no one and helped everyone he could. He did what many fighting tyranny had to: shield themselves with US law,” he said.
Yasay died due to pneumonia caused by cancer, his wife said. He served as Foreign Affairs Secretary from June 2016 until March 2017.
A close friend of President Rodrigo Duterte, Yasay had to step down after the Commission on Appointments rejected his appointment over questions surrounding his citizenship.
