‘Maghanap lang ng karenderya’: Duterte asks Año to provide shelter, food to stranded passengers

By Prince Golez

President Rodrigo Duterte ordered Interior Secretary Eduardo Año to “gather” all locally stranded individuals (LSI) who were stranded at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and to provide them food and accommodation.

“Now again, I would like to remind before I close, si General Año, to gather all, to gather all na naghihintay na walang matulugan, walang matirahan at nandiyan sa labas ng NAIA or whatever sa airport, you will be transported to a place. I will pay, you just bill me pati pagkain,” Duterte said in his public message late Tuesday.

The Chief Executive asked Año to keep spending down to a minimum.

“Hindi naman pagkain na ano, maghanap lang ng ‘yung mga karenderya-karenderya diyan kasi baka ang Budget magreklamo. Huwag kayong magkain nang mahal-mahal kay hindi panahon na ano ito ngayon. We are in a crisis and let us keep our senses close to the ground,” he added.

Hundreds of LSIs have been forced to camp out near NAIA while waiting for their flights back home.
