Modern jeepneys in Metro Manila will be allowed to operate starting June 22, Malacañang announced Thursday.
However, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said that traditional jeeps will still be prohibited to ply their routes.
“Ang modern PUVs (public utility vehicles) allowed sila mag operate begining 22 June 2020. Hindi pa kasama ang traditional. Pinag-aaralan pero may possibility. Pero hindi pa tapos ang pag-aaral ng LTFRB (Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board),” according to him.
Asked about the possibility of ride-hailing app Angkas to resume operations next week, Roque said the Department of Health is studying its proposed special suit if it will be sufficient to provide distancing.
Under General Community Quarantine, only train and bus augmentation, bus augmentation units, taxis and Transport Network Vehicle Service, shuttle services, point-to-point buses, and bicycles are allowed.
Public utility buses and UV Express may also be allowed to operate on Monday.
