Wanna be No. 1 in world terror list? Then junk anti-terror bill, Ping says

If Filipinos want to be the world’s No. 1 in terms of terrorism, then by all means they can junk the anti-terrorism bill, Sen. Panfilo Lacson said Monday night.

Lacson said the Philippines ranks ninth in the 2019 Global Terrorism Index, which measures the impact of terrorism on a country.

“Are we aspiring to be number 1 on the list by registering more deaths in the hands of domestic and foreign terrorists? If the answer is yes, then junk the anti-terror bill,” he said in a post on his Twitter account.

He also attached an image of the 2019 Global Terrorism Index showing the Philippines at ninth, with terrorism having a “high” impact.

Other countries in the top 10 in the index include Afghanistan, Iraq, Nigeria, Syria, Pakistan, Somalia, India, Yemen and Democractic Republic of the Congo.

Lacson sponsored the anti-terrorism bill in the Senate as Senate Bill 1083. The bill was adopted by the House of Representatives and is due for transmittal to Malacanang.

Once the bill reaches Malacanang, President Rodrigo Duterte can sign it into law, veto it, or allow it to lapse into law after 30 days.
