2 House personnel test positive for COVID-19

By JOHN CARLO M. CAHINHINAN

Two persons working in the House of Representatives have tested positive for the deadly novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

House secretary-general Atty. Jose Luis Montales made the confirmation through a text message sent on Thursday evening to congressmen as well as other officials and employees of the Lower House.

“We regret to inform you that two (2) of our co- employees tested positive for COVID- 19,” Montales’ message read.

The couple—one is assigned at the Printing Service Department while the other at the Engineering Department—last reported for work inside the Batasang Pambansa Complex on May 28.

According to Montales, “protocols for handling positive cases and their close contacts are being observed.”

“Let’s pray for our co-employees’ recovery,” he added.

Almost every House personnel undergoes a weekly rapid COVID-19 test, particularly those part of the skeletal force since the new normal policy was implemented last May.

Last March, two employees of the Lower House earlier in March—a chief-of-staff of congressmen in the Bicol Region and an employee of the Printing Service Department—have both died after being infected by the dreaded disease.
