Weak anti-terror law makes PH a lab for international terrorists, says Ping

No thanks to a weak anti-terrorism law in the form of the 2007 Human Security Act, the Philippines is becoming a laboratory for international terrorist groups, Sen. Panfilo Lacson said Tuesday.

Lacson, who heads the Senate defense committee and who sponsored the Senate version of the measure, said the present law did nothing to address the Marawi siege of 2017 and may do little to prevent its repeat.

“Ginagawa nilang laboratory ang PH. ISIS, JI, Indonesia, yan pero sa PH nag-o-operate. Bakit? Napakaluwag ng batas natin. Gusto ba natin dito magpuntahan dito ang terorista kasi napakahina ng batas natin?” he said in an interview on DZRH radio.

Lacson cited information reaching him indicating soldiers in Mindanao are supporting the anti-terror measure because they face the threat of terrorism there.

In contrast, he said they feel many of those opposing the measure are enjoying the so-called good life in Metro Manila.

“May sundalo sa Mindanao na sumusuporta of course dito sa panukalang batas na ito. Sabi nila kayo kasi sa Manila, masarap ang buhay nyo riyan, ang sundalo at pulis, sa restaurant kumakain. Dito sa Mindanao di namin kasama pamilya namin, kaharap namin mga terorista,” he said.

“Kung baligtarin kaya natin diyan mapunta ang terorista at sa Mindanao maraming Japanese and Chinese restaurants, baka kayo naman manawagan suportahan ang anti-terrorism bill ng Senado at buong Kongreso,” he added.
