A total of 3,699 cases of violence against women and children have been reported since the Philippines went into full lockdown to contain the spread of coronavirus, according to President Rodrigo Duterte.
In his latest report to Congress on Monday, Duterte assured the protection of women and children against discrimination and from violation of their rights.
“The PNP Women and Children Protection Desks are working closely with (local government units) to ensure that the welfare of women and children are protected,” the President said.
“As of June 4, 2020, the (Philippine National Police) has recorded a total of 1,945 cases of violence against women and 1,754 cases of violence against children since the implementation of the (enhanced community quarantine),” he also said.
Meanwhile, Duterte said the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW), through the Inter-Agency Council on Violence Against Women and their Children Secretariat, has been actively responding to relevant inquiries received through various electronic platforms.
“The PCW (also) continues to implement the (Violence Against Women) Referral System, which provides for a national mechanism for monitoring and reduction of gender-based violence,” said Duterte.
