Health Secretary Francisco Duque III still enjoys President Rodrigo Duterte’s trust and confidence despite being tagged as the “godfather” of the alleged mafia in the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth), according to Malacañang.
“If (Duterte) has ceased to have trust and confidence, then, Secretary Duque will no longer be in office because all Cabinet members serve at the pleasure of the President,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a CNN Philippines interview Wednesday.
“For as long as Secretary Duque remains, then he enjoys the trust and confidence of the President,” Roque also said.
During the resumption of the Senate investigation of alleged anomalies in PhilHealth yesterday, former anti-fraud officer Thorrsson Montes claimed that Duque led the alleged mafia inside the state health insurer.
Montes, a lawyer who resigned from his post last July due to alleged “widespread corruption” in the agency, earlier alleged that senior PhilHealth officials pocketed P15 billion through fraudulent schemes.
