Star with a heart of gold: FPJ missed by the poor especially during pandemic, Erap says

Former President Joseph Estrada is paying tribute to his best friend the late National Artist Fernando Poe Jr. on his 81st birth anniversary.

Estrada took to Facebook to extend his birthday greeting to FPJ, saying the the late film actor is dearly missed by the poor especially as the country struggles with the coronavirus pandemic.

FPJ, known as the king of Philippine movies, was known for his generosity and compassion for the poor, according to the former Manila mayor.

“Kailan man ay hinding-hindi ko malilimutan ang kaarawan ng matalik kong kaibigan at Hari ng Pelikulang Pilipino, Fernando Poe Jr.,” Estrada said.

“Alam ko na ngayong panahon ng pandemya isa ka sa hinahanap ng mga mahihirap dahil alam nila na kahit anong mangyari ay tutulong at aalalay ka sa kanila,” he said.

FPJ is gone but will remain in hearts of the Filipinos, Estrada said about his best buddy.

“Mananatili ka hindi lang sa puso at isipan ko, pati na rin sa Masang Pilipino. Maraming salamat sa masasayang alaala. Happy Birthday in heaven, Pareng Ronnie!” he said.

Ronald Allan K. Poe, known as FPJ in the movies, born on August 20, 1939 in Manila. He died on December 14, 2004. The film star ran but lost in the 2004 presidential elections.

The cultural icon was posthumously declared a National Artist for cinema in May 2006.
