The Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) will continue to file cases against those responsible for the deaths of persons who got doses of the Dengvaxia anti-dengue vaccine, assured PAO forensic expert Erwin Erfe on Saturday (Sept. 5).
Erfe made the assurance after another child who received shots of the vaccine, identified as Maekyla Cruz, 13, died last Aug. 28.
“MaeKyla received 3 doses of Dengvaxia,” said Erfe.
Aside from this, the doctor said he led the PAO Forensic Team (PAOTF) in conducting the autopsy on Mekyla last Sept. 3 and becomes the 157th person who got Dengvaxia to have been autopsied by the PAOTF.
“Preliminary findings showed multi-organ enlargement and multi-organ bleeding consistent with our findings in the other 156 Dengvaxia vaccinees who died after vaccination and examined by the PAOFT,” he said.
Meanwhile, Erfe said Maekyla’s family also “requested PAO to file, on their behalf, criminal and civil cases.”
“The PAO Forensic Team is of the opinion that this case fulfills legal causation criteria hence we will recommend the filing,” he pointed out.
Complaining of headaches and numbness of her face, Maekyla has been confined at the Philippine Children’s Medical Center (PCMC) in Quezon City for around a week when she died.
