Vice President Leni Robredo wants to know what the Department of Transportation’s (DOTr’s) basis was in reducing physical distancing rules in public transportation starting September 14.
On her radio show, “Biserbisyong Leni,” Robredo said she searched online for the scientific basis behind DOTr’s decision since she only knew about the World Health Organization’s recommendation of a one-meter distance between persons as a precautionary measure against COVID-19.
Starting September 14, distance between commuters on public utility vehicles will be reduced to 0.75 meters from the current 1 meter. It will be further reduced to 0.5 meters starting September 28 and 0.3 meters starting October 12.
Robredo said she had recommended that the government tap PUV drivers under a service contracting system so they can have assured income without compromising adherence to physical distancing rules.
So sana hindi na muna boundary system,” she said.
