Former Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano has called for the creation of a national health passport system that can be combined with the government’s national identification system to help individuals easily access their health records.
Cayetano said he has been pushing for the measure since 1998, his first term as a congressman.
“‘Yung bill na ‘yan noong umpisa ay talagang literal na passport na parang hawak mo at nandoon ang mga impormasyon mo….. dahil doon sa technology sa (pwedeng) QR code (nalang),” Cayetano said.
Cayetano said that his proposal can be included in the national ID system.
He said the system could provide the national government not only with a database containing the number of Filipino families per locality, it can also help individuals easily access their personal records and have an electronic account where the government can reach and transact with them.
Cayetano refiled the proposed National Health Passport System in 2019 when he became Speaker. Until now the proposal is pending in the House committee on Health.
