So Imeldific!
Former Presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda has slammed the government’s white sand project of Manila Bay, calling it an Imeldific delusion.
Lacierda, in a post on Twitter, said the Manila Bay beautification project reminds the nation of former First Lady Imelda Marcos’ project to improve Manila’s look while hiding the scenes of poverty years ago.
“Putting white sands in Manila Bay at a time of need reminds us of Imelda Marcos’s Manila beautification project while people lived in mass poverty,” he tweeted.
“You cannot paint Manila Bay white to preserve sanity while people wallow in black uncertainty. An Imeldific delusion,” he added.
The Department of Environment and Natural Resources has started to pour “white sand” or crushed dolomite rocks along the Manila Bay shoreline to improve its aesthetic look. Many groups have criticized government for its beautification plan instead of addressing the environmental problems of the bay. Malacañang has defended the Manila Bay beach enhancement project, saying it also addresses concerns on soil erosion and flooding in Manila.
