Health Secretary Francisco Duque III will stay in his post after President Duterte has refused to let him go.
The President told Duque not to resign especially if he is not involved in corruption. He said he heard that Duque was planning to quit but urged the health chief to continue to do his job.
Duque thanked the President for the continued trust and support and promised to work harder.
“I am overwhelmed. Our president’s continued trust and support inspires us to work even harder,” Duque tweeted.
The health secretary also extended his thanks to the Department of Health family for their tireless hard work to address the coronavirus pandemic.
“I would also like to thank my DOH family and their profound dedication, working tirelessly in spite of the risks from the pandemic,” Duque said.
The Senate recently adopted a committee report recommending the filing of criminal charges against Duque and other officials over the alleged misuse of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation’s funds. Duque has dismissed the Senate report as baseless.
Some senators earlier called for the removal of Duque over alleged mismanagement of the government’s efforts to fight the pandemic.
I am overwhelmed. Our president’s continued trust and support inspires us to work even harder. I would also like to thank my DOH family and their profound dedication, working tirelessly in spite of the risks from the pandemic.
