Palace says nothing wrong with PNP plan to monitor of social media for quarantine violators

By Prince Golez

MalacaƱang on Monday defended the police monitoring of social media for violations of quarantine protocols.

There is nothing illegal with the plan of the Philippine National Police (PNP) to check social media posts for quarantine violators, according to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque.

“Yung CyberCrime Act natin nakasaad doon ang ipinagbabawal. Hindi naman pinagbabawal ang social media monitoring,” Roque said during his virtual presser.

“So, wala pong mali doon sa ginagawa ng police kung tinitignan lang nila kung ano yun ang mga naka-post sa social media,” he said.

“So yung pagmo-monitor po hindi po yan illegal. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that,” he added.

Joint Task Force COVID Shield Commander PLt. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar had said photos and videos of parties and drinking sessions can be used as evidence to warn, fine, and summon concerned individuals.
