Gov’t resumes face-to-face medical internship at UP-PGH

By Prince Golez

The government has allowed the University of the Philippines College of Medicine to resume its face-to-face clinical internship program at the Philippine General Hospital.

“The face-to-face clinical internship program of UP-PGH shall be allowed to resume as an exception in the application of the pertinent provisions of the Omnibus Guidelines in the Implementation of Community Quarantine in the Philippines, as amended, and such other issuances as may have been issued by the Commission on Higher Education,” Resolution No. 82 of Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases read.

It can be recalled that in early March, the Association of Philippine Medical Colleges ordered the pull-out of all medical students working at various hospitals in Metro Manila amid rising safety concerns for health workers.

Despite the pullout order, more than 100 medical interns at the PGH volunteered to go back on duty to augment the health workforce at the forefront of the fight against coronavirus.

The IATF issued Resolution No. 82 last October 26.
