Palace crafting EO to create task force for typhoon relief effort – Roque

By Prince Golez

An executive order is being drafted to create the Build Back Better task force, which is tasked to streamline the government’s response in typhoon-affected area, Malacañang said Monday.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea will lead the task force, with various government agencies as members.

This includes the Department of Agriculture, Department of Public Works and Highways, Department of Budget and Management, National Irrigation Administration, National Electrification Administration, and National Housing Authority among others.

The task force will have a “clear chain of command and direct mandate to address and monitor the multifarious issues and concerns involved in the rehabilitation and recovery phase of typhoon-affected areas,” Roque said in a televised briefing.

“As our experiences have taught us, a typhoon’s devastating effects do not respect political boundaries and call for interventions that involve a whole of government approach, as well as immediate solutions outside of the current bureaucratic framework,” according to him.

The Palace official said the Philippine Air Force, Philippine Navy and the Philippine Coast Guard are tasked to provide assistance to the body.

All concerned local government units must also assist the task force in carrying out its mandate, he added.
