Ping pushes P20B post-disaster rehab funds in 2021 budget

Sen. Panfilo Lacson is pushing a P20-billion allocation in the 2021 budget for post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts to be undertaken by the concerned local government units.

Lacson said Monday the LGUs hit hardest by recent typhoons such as Quinta, Rolly and Ulysses must “directly” be given additional budget to allow them to get back on their feet soonest.

“I submitted to the mother committee a separate item of P20 billion under the Special Purpose Fund, which is specifically for post-disaster rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts to be undertaken by the concerned LGUs,” he said in a text message to Senate reporters.

But Lacson also said the Department of Interior and Local Government has been required to provide his office a list of the itemized programs, activities and projects to be funded by the P20 billion “as a requirement for the utilization of the said amount.”

Last week, Lacson said he is determined to amend and realign some P20 billion for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of LGUs hit hard by the typhoons.

He said this will be sourced from the P68-billion allocations for “corrupt-ridden” skeleton multi-purpose building projects.
