After conflicting reports on allowing kids in Metro Manila malls, Binay tells gov’t to form group chat, ‘speak with one voice’

Get your act together.

Former Vice President Jojo Binay has appealed to the government to speak with one voice to avoid confusion on key policies on the coronavirus response.

Binay said they should consider forming a group chat to discuss matters before announcing major policies related to the country’s quarantine restrictions.

The former vice president made the suggestion after authorities gave conflicting announcements on whether or not to allow minors to go to malls with their parents.

“We have been on lockdown for nine months. you would think that by now, government officials would have figured out how to speak with one voice.

Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Año earlier announced that minors will be allowed in shopping malls if accompanied by their parents in areas under general community quarantine. He said relaxing the stay-at-home rule for minors will require a local ordinance. He made the announcement during a meeting with President Duterte and other Cabinet officials last Monday.

Año backtracked on the announcement after Health Secretary Francisco Duque III opposed the idea of allowing children in shopping malls to avoid coronavirus infections.
