Malacañang welcomed the United Kingdom’s (UK) move to authorize the use of BioNTech/Pfizer vaccine against coronavirus disease (Covid-19).
Such development brings hope that the Covid-19 pandemic will end, according to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque.
“Ito ay nagbibigay pag-asa sa ating na baka matapos na itong delubyong pandemic na ito dahil talagang bakuna lang ang kasagutan dito,” Roque said in a televised briefing Thursday.
The secretary said UK’s approval of vaccine may speed up the availability of vaccines in the Philippines.
“Dahil sa development ng ginawa na desisyon ng Ingglatera, may pag-asa po tayo, subject to availability of vaccine na baka first quarter of the year pa lang ay makarating na sa ating mga bakuna,” he added.
On Wednesday, British Health Secretary Matt Hancock announced that UK regulators authorized the vaccine by American pharmaceutical giant Pfizer and its German partner BioNTech for emergency use.
