Las Piñas Rep. Camille Villar is still one of the 29 Deputy Speakers despite her announcement that she had declined the post.
Deputy Speaker Salvador “Doy” Leachon confirmed Villar remains one of the House of Representatives’ most powerful officials.
“She was elected by the people, by the members. Siguro lang na-sideline lang ng kaunti ang usapin doon because of the budget,” he told reporters Thursday (December 10).
Leachon said Villar’s declining of the position of Deputy Speaker was “still being discussed (pinag-uusapan pa ‘yun).”
Villar wrote House Speaker Velasco on November 18 declining her election as Deputy Speaker. The only daughter of bilyonaryo Manny Villar didn’t disclose her reason for turning down the post, but said that “the greater tact is adherent responsibility to our constituents, the adroit loyalty to allies and friends and the constant affinity to the leadership and nation.”
The Las Piñas congresswoman is a party mate of Velasco’s rival, former Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano, from the Nacionalista Party.
