President Rodrigo Duterte claimed that some police officers in Zamboanga del Sur are trying to reorganize the infamous Kuratong Baleleng gang.
In a taped speech Monday, Duterte warned the said policemen to “shape up,” saying that they do not stand a chance against the government.
“May mga pulis diyan sa Zamboanga del Sur na nagtatayo ng parang reviving the — itong gang ni — humahawak sa Ozamiz? Kuratong Baleleng,” the President said.
“Better shape up… Gusto mamatay nang maaga. Hindi niyo kaya ang gobyerno. Patayin mo man si (Interior chief Eduardo) Año, patayin mo ako, patayin mo si ano, (Defense chief Delfin) Lorenzana, buhay pa rin ang Republika ng Pilipinas,” he added.
Kuratong Baleleng was organized in 1986 to fight the communist New People’s Army in Mindanao.
The military disbanded the gang in 1988, but some members allegedly operated as an organized crime syndicate involved in activities like kidnapping, robberies, and other crimes.
