The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) urged all local government units (LGUs) to pass an ordinance that would ban karaoke sessions in public to prevent the spread of coronavirus disease (Covid-19).
During a Laging Handa public briefing Thursday, Usec. Jonathan Malaya reminded the public that videoke establishments and karaoke bars remain barred from operating.
“Meron kaming panawagan sa mga LGUs na magpasa ng mga ordinansa para maisakatuparan itong direktiba mula kay Secretary Eduardo Año,” said Malaya.
“Yung statement ni Secretary Año was more of discouraging the use of karaoke and encouraging the LGUs to pass their respective ordinances prohibiting the use of karaoke,” he added.
The DILG official also cited the findings of the Department of Health that karaoke singing have higher risks of Covid-19 transmission.
“Almost 500% ang risk of community transmission if we allow such activity,” he concluded.
