Keep Echanis’ child safe, Palace to DSWD

By Prince Golez

Malacañang asked the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to ensure the safety of the 1- year-old child of suspected New People’s Army leader Amanda Echanis, who was arrested for alleged illegal possession of firearms and explosives.

Echanis was with her newborn baby when she was arrested during a police operation in Cagayan Wednesday.

“I am calling upon the DSWD to take steps to ensure that the welfare of the child will be protected,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a virtual presser Thursday.

“It is always the rule that the government will take steps for the best interest of the child,” he also said.

It can be recalled that in October, three-month old Baby River died of pneumonia while her mother, activist Reina Mae Nasino remained in detention for allegedly possessing illegal firearms and explosives.
