Ping bares more 2021 budget cuts for 3 departments

Sen. Panfilo Lacson on Monday bared more cuts for at least three more departments in the P4.5-trillion national budget for 2021.

Lacson said the affected agencies include the Departments of National Defense (P5.2 billion), Department of Education (P11 billion) and Department of Transportation (P35 billion).

“So nabawasan ng P8 billion (sa DND budget) pero may nadagdag sa other items ng another P2-3 billion, so naiwan P5.2-billion reduction from the budget of DND. Another P11 billion was deducted from the budget of DepEd, and P35 billion was taken out from the budget of DoTr,” he said in an interview on CNN Philippines.

Last week, Lacson questioned a P28-billion increase in the Department of Public Works and Highways’ budget after it went through the bicameral conference.

But Lacson said he is leaving it to the Cabinet to scrutinize the budget, adding he is no longer considering writing the Cabinet to offer his inputs.

“I might be too presumptuous that I’m doing so, my action might be misconstrued as not trusting the ability of his cabinet officials to diligently examine and scrutinize the budget as passed by Congress. In fact I trust President Duterte’s economic advisers as well as his own judgment, based on his past actions in exercising his veto power,” he said in a text message to reporters.
