The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) is ready to proceed with its investigation over reports over the alleged acquisition and use of COVID-19 virus vaccine in the country, NBI Deputy Director Ferdinand Lavin said on Saturday (Jan. 2).
“There are already agents on standby and within the next few days the director will be issuing the special order for this as soon as we receive the department order,” he said during an interview on DZBB.
“Kasi nandoon na sa department order yung scope of investigation,” he added.
So far, Lavin said Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra has only given a verbal directive to NBI Director Eric Distor for the conduct of the probe.
The move was made following revelations that the Presidential Security Group (PSG) got hold of COVID-19 vaccines and vaccinated its members.
At the moment, Lavin admitted the only person of interest the NBI has identified over the issue is PSG commander Brig. Gen. Jesus Durante III who disclosed the acquisition and use of the vaccines.
The NBI spokesperson assured that the probe will not single out the PSG.
“Hindi lang naka-focus doon o nakatuon doon. Kailangan tingnan din yung iba,” Lavin explained.
Even if the vaccine acquisition is a government to government deal, Lavin said the NBI will look into possible lapses in getting the vaccines.
