Sandiganbayan’s Tang to face JBC on Jan 6 for SC seat application

Sandiganbayan Presiding Justice Amparo Cabotaje-Tang and two other candidates will be facing the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) this Wednesday (Jan. 6) as they vie for a lone spot at the Supreme Court (SC).

Aside from Tang, SC Clerk of Court and JBC Ex Officio Secretary Edgar Aricheta said in an advisory that the other candidates set for interview are Court of Appeals (CA) Justice Japar Dimaampao, and Ateneo de Manila University law dean Sedfrey Candelaria.

The candidates are vying for a seat that was vacated upon the early retirement of SC Justice Priscilla Baltazar-Padilla last November.

Aside from the three, there are eight other candidates seeking the post, namely, Court Administrator Jose Midas Marquez, Sandiganbayan Justice Oscar Herrera Jr., and CA Justices Nina Antonio Valenzuela, Apolinario Bruselas Jr., Ramon Cruz, Jhosep Lopez, Eduardo Peralta Jr. and Maria Filomena Singh.

Aricheta advised the public that it may submit “a sworn complaint, report, or opposition against any of the aforesaid applicants.”
