BI reminds foreigners: Show respect or be barred from entering PH

Foreigners who are disrespectful of immigration officers will be barred from entering the Philippines, Bureau of Immigration (BI) Commissioner Jaime Morente warned.

Morente cited in a statement that a total of 18 foreigners were barred from entering the country in 2020 for disrespecting immigration officers at the airports.

“While immigration officers are instructed to exercise maximum tolerance, some foreign nationals overstep their boundaries and arrive drunk, rowdy, and unruly when they present themselves for inspection,” said Morente.

“There were even some who would make derogatory statements about Filipinos or the country,” he added.

Not only will they be prevented from entering the country, Morente said that discourteous aliens will also be blacklisted and banned from re-entering the country.

The BI chief the policy is based on the 2001 memorandum order which instructs immigration personnel to exclude disrespectful foreign passengers, and include them in the immigration blacklist.
