The Free Legal Assistance Group (FLAG) on Saturday (Feb. 20) urged the public to stand up against government oppression.
The FLAG made the call after the Zambales Provincial Prosecutor’s Office cleared teacher Ronnel Mas from sedition in connection with offering P50 million in Facebook for the killing of President Rodrigo Duterte.
“The enablers of atrocities of this regime can only go so far, for so long as there are people who will stand up for the rule of law,” said FLAG lawyer Dino de Leon in a statement.
“Indeed, what this decision shows that ordinary people like Teacher Ronnel can push back and can stand up against oppression, injustice, and violations of human rights,” he pointed out.
The case was re-filed by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) before the Zambales Provincial Prosecutor’s Office after the Olongapo City regional trial court (RTC) dismissed the charge in June last year.
Mas arrested on May 11, 2020 by the NBI in Zambales for posting in social media on May 5, 2020: “I will give 50 million reward kung sino makakaptay kay Duterte.”
