Malacañang on Thursday said it respects the opinion of Metro Manila mayors that now is not the time to amend the 1987 Constitution.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, however, said that passing laws is the work of Congress.
“Well, we respect the views of these mayors, of course. But we also have to repsect na trabaho ng Kongreso na isulong yung mga bagay-bagay na ito,” Roque said during his televised briefing.
“Walang puwedeng manghimasok sa kapangyarihan ng Kongreso sa pag-propose ng amendments to the Constitution. Trabaho po nila yan,” he added.
Last Tuesday, the House committee on constitutional amendments approved a measure amending the economic provisions of the Constitution.
