Malacañang on Thursday said it is still “too early” to discuss the proposal to ban face-to-face election campaigns in light of the coronavirus disease (Covid-19) pandemic.
The Commission on Elections earlier raised the possibility of banning face-to-face campaigning for the May 2022 polls to control the spread of new Covid-19 cases.
“I think it’s still too early because we’re about to start our inoculation program,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a virtual presser.
Roque added that the Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) on Emerging Infectious Diseases, a policy-making body that provides recommendations to the President related to the pandemic, will also have a say on the matter.
“We respect that Comelec is the constitutional body tasked with the holding and supervision of elections. Pero, I’m sure the issue will be discussed beyond Comelec and will also include the IATF,” according to him.
