Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said the government will study the possibility of allowing religious gatherings in Metro Manila and nearby provinces.
Guevarra made the assurance after Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque earlier issued a warning that the government will close down churches which will defy the ban.
The secretary said the Inter-Agency Task Force on the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) will be holding a meeting this Thursday (March 25).
Among those to be discussed, Guevarra, who is also a member of the task force, said the IATF will tackle “the request of the Catholic Church to be allowed a maximum of 10 percent attendance in churches during the triduum (Holy Thursday-Good Friday-Black Saturday), as well as on Easter Sunday which will coincide with the celebration of the Quincentennial of Christianity in the Philippines.”
Due to the alarming rise in COVID-19 virus cases, the government has placed
Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite and Rizal under a general community quarantine (GCQ) bubble from March 22 to April 4.
During the period, a ban has been imposed against religious gatherings.
