There is a 50 percent chance that President Rodrigo Duterte will extend the weeklong enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) imposed in Metro Manila and four nearby provinces, Malacañang said Tuesday.
Duterte earlier placed the National Capital Region and the provinces of Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna and Rizal under ECQ until April 4 due to rising coronavirus cases in the country.
“I would say it’s a 50-50. We’re hoping na iyong one week bubble natin at saka iyong one week na ECQ natin will lead to lower numbers,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said when asked about the chances of the Chief Executive extending the current lockdown.
“Ang pinakaimportante is our critical care capacity. Kaya po tayo nag-i-ECQ is to prepare our healthcare system to treat iyong mga seryosong mga magkakasakit,” said Roque.
Meanwhile, the Palace official said the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases will meet on Saturday to discuss whether the ECQ status of NCR Plus will be extended.
