Kung ayaw ni Sara ‘wag! Panelo floats Bong Go as ‘viable’ Duterte successor

By Prince Golez

If Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio is not seeking the presidency in 2022, Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo believes that Senator Christopher “Bong” Go will be a “viable alternative.”

In an interview with POLITISKOOP Tuesday, Panelo said Go is qualified to run for the country’s highest elective post, citing his experience as President Rodrigo Duterte’s personal aide of two decade.

“Kung si Mayor Sara hindi tatakbo, si Senador Christopher ‘Bong’ Go ay maaari din naman maging presidente sapagkat sa 22 years niya bilang aide ni Presidente nung siya ay mayor pa ng Davao at halos apat na taon as Special Assistant to the President, at ngayon ay Senador, eh malawak na po yung kanyang karanasan, at ang estilo ng pamamahala ni Presidente ay nakuha na niya,” the abogado explained.

“Kaya ‘pag sinabi ni Presidente na, ito si Christopher ‘Bong’ Go ay puwedeng presidente, maniwala kayo sapagkat nakikita niya yung katangian na nakita niya sa sarili niya ay mukhang nailipat niya na kay Christopher ‘Bong’ Go,” he added.

In a speech during the meeting of the national task force-regional task force to end local communist armed conflict in Northern Mindanao Friday, Duterte appeared to have endorsed Go as his presidential bet next year.

The Chief Executive introduced Go as “presidente” and asked him to stand up and wave to the audience.

The aide-turned senator, who ran under the ruling PDP-Laban party, ranked third in the 2019 senatorial race, with 20,657,702 votes.
