Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles recently led the turnover ceremony of 383 housing units under the Yolanda Permanent Housing Project to beneficiaries in Balangiga, Eastern Samar.
During the virtual turnover Wednesday, Nograles, who also serves as Chairman of Task Force Yolanda, reiterated the commitment of the Duterte administration to finish all Yolanda housing projects by 2022.
The National Housing Authority (NHA) Region 8 has turned over a total of 17,955 houses to different towns and municipalities in Eastern Visayas.
The areas covered by the projects are as follows:
-Ormoc City, Leyte, (1,419 units)
-Cabucgayan, Biliran (258 units)
-Biliran, Biliran (1,265 units)
-Almeria, Biliran (405 units)
-Tacloban City, Leyte (8,046 units)
-Basey, Samar (1,000 units)
-Burauen, Leyte (187 units)
-Baybay City, Leyte (356 units)
-MacArthur, Leyte (112 units)
-Carigara, Leyte (2,285 units)
-Guiuan, Eastern Samar (610 units)
-Inopacan, Leyte (133 units)
-Mercedes, Eastern Samar (139 units)
-Gen. MacArthur, Eastern Samar (234 units)
-Quinapondan, Eastern Samar (623 units)
-Santa Fe, Leyte (500 units)
-Balangiga, Eastern Samar (383 units).
“Recognition is due to the tireless efforts of the NHA under the leadership of General Manager Marcelino Escalada Jr., Regional Manager Engr. Dodong Antiniero, employees of NHA Eastern Samar District Office, local chief executives and other stakeholders in government who all showed teamwork and dedication to complete the project on a very demanding schedule despite the challenges of Covid-19,” said Nograles.
Through its Pilipinas Kontra Gutom program, the Cabinet official said the Task Force Zero Hunger, which he also chairs, will create community gardens from idle lands so that the beneficiaries can grow nutritious food for consumption and commerce.
This effort, he added, was in line with his advocacy to combat hunger and poverty, especially in Yolanda-affected areas.
