Andanar hails Jun Icban’s role in PH journalism

By Prince Golez

Communications Secretary Martin Andanar remembered the late Crispulo Icban Jr.’s “pivotal role” in the development of Philippine journalism as he condoles the passing of the former Press Secretary.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the loved ones, friends, and colleagues of former Press Secretary and veteran journalist Crispulo Julio ‘Jun’ Icban, Jr. for his passing,” Andanar said in a statement.

Icban, who also served as editor-in-chief and publisher of the Manila Bulletin for many years, died on Monday at the age of 85.

“Rendering 47 years in Manila Bulletin, 18 years of which was spent as its editor-in-chief, his works and presence have been a daily part of the lives of those in the industry and those who consume news and information,” the chief of the Presidential Communications Operations Office said.

Icban’s contribution to the practice of journalism, he added, will never be forgotten.

“As someone who has had a distinguished career in and has devoted his life to journalism, Mr. Icban will be truly missed, especially by those who have been cultivated with his vocation. We pray for the eternal repose of his soul,” said Andanar.
