Lugaw, or rice porridge, now has its own song.
The silly debate on whether or not lugaw is essential has produced a meme-worthy song.
The catchy tune dubbed “The Lugaw Song,” produced by Kap Tagay, is patterned after the Filipino folk song “Paruparong Bukid.” The song, posted on YouTube on March 31, 2021, has so far earned more than 44,000 views.
The production of the latest song came after a controversial spat between a Grab food delivery guy and barangay officials over the transport of lugaw in Bulacan.
The viral video showed the barangay officials trying to stop the food delivery after claiming lugaw was supposedly not an essential good during the lockdown imposed in NCR+. The Palace chimed in with a declaration that lugaw, like any other food item, is essential good and such delivery should not be hampered.
The concerned barangay officials have apologized over the incident.
