Vice President Leni Robredo called on the government Saturday (April 3) to update its website on hospitals that could accommodate COVID-19 patients in light of the surge in cases in recent weeks.
In a Facebook post, Robredo expressed dismay that the website containing information on available hospitals for COVID-19 patients isn’t updated.
“I checked the site and there are no real time updates and people won’t have an idea which hospitals still have vacancies,” she said.
“Baka naman puwede na natin itong i rush. Doable naman siya. Kawawa yung mga kababayan natin,” Robredo added.
The Vice President said that while the One Hospital Command Center (OHCC) has been “helpful” in directing people to hospitals with available beds, the system is already overwhelmed due to the number of inquiries.
“The hotlines are difficult to access and in emergency situations, every minute, every second counts,” she said.
Robredo said it was “heartbreaking” to learn of stories of people looking for available hospital rooms for relatives struggling to breathe due to COVID-19.
“It is even worse to receive messages informing us that the patient died while looking for available hospitals,” she said.
The OHCC was supposed to reduce the waiting time of COVID-19 patients by referring them to the appropriate medical facility for treatment depending on the symptoms they have. It was also mandated to facilitate medical transport and pick up arrangements, as well as optimize the use of critical care services of hospitals.
The OHCC can be accessed through an app, QR code or by calling the hotlines: 02-886-505-00, 0915-777-7777 and 0919-977-3333.
The Philippines set a new record high number of new COVID-19 cases on Friday (April 2), logging 15,310 individuals who tested positive for the virus.
