Several NCR+ based auto dealerships have re-opened with a skeletal workforce despite the on-going Enhanced Community Quarantine or ECQ. This is based, they said, on the newest directives from the DTI.
However, this could all be based on interpretation. To recall, the DTI has allowed “establishments engaged in repair and maintenance of machinery and equipment (including those engaged in the repair of computers and household fixtures and equipment” to operate under ECQ Season 2.
Going back to the original ECQ, it specifically disallowed both the “wholesale and retail trade of motor vehicles, motorcycles, and bicycles” and “repair of motor vehicles, motorcycles, and bicycles (including vulcanizing shops, battery repair shops, auto repair shops, car wash).” These rules, as far as everyone knows, has not been changed between ECQ Season 1 and ECQ Season 2.
Heck, a dealership association pleaded with the DTI, only to be shot down in the process during ECQ Season 1.
Regardless, for those whose vehicles are needing repairs, here are some confirmed dealerships that are open, albeit only strictly accepting customers on a by-appointment basis. This list will be updated:
- Kia Alabang / BGC / Mandaluyong – for essential businesses and frontliners only
- Maxus Alabang / Mandaluyong / Quezon Avenue – for essential businesses and frontliners only
- Mazda Makati
- Volkswagen BGC / Quezon Avenue – for essential businesses and frontliners only
Our suggestion is that if you can forego going out, please do so. With the government looking to move NCR+ to the less stringent MECQ by April 12, dealerships will once again be allowed to operate at 50 percent capacity. Perhaps that is a better time to bring your car in for its routine check or PMS.
