President Rodrigo Duterte slammed former Supreme Court Justice Antonio Carpio and former Foreign Affairs Secretary Albert Del Rosario for the country’s loss of Scarborough Shoal to China in 2012.
“Isang tanong lang ako kay Carpio pati kay Albert. Kung bright kayo, bakit nawala ang West Philippine Sea sa atin? Panahon ninyo ‘yon eh. Panahon ninyo na talagang nandiyan kayo sa puwesto,” Duterte asked during his televised speech Wednesday evening.
Earlier, Carpio said that the diplomatic protests lodged by the Philippines against China were being ignored because of the verbal fishing agreement between President Rodrigo Duterte and President Xi Jinping in 2016.
Del Rosario, on one hand, said that “standing up for our rights in the West Philippine Sea is not an act of war against China.”
The President has repeatedly said the Philippines can’t go to war against Beijing as this will only result in the destruction of the country’s armed forces.
