Honda Shows Off First-Ever EV SUV: the 2022 Honda SUV e

Honda is inching closer to the production of its all-electric SUV by showing it off in prototype form at the Auto Shanghai. First shown in September as a concept, the Honda SUV e will be the Japanese carmaker’s first all-electric vehicle for the Chinese market.

It stays true to its concept car form with its angular styling and coupe-like roofline. The prototype version, as it’s officially referred to, now wears production-ready cues. It also drops its two-door configuration for a more conventional and family-friendly four-door one. At the front, it has a long LED strip that almost joins the headlight units together, while there are strong HR-V/Vezel hints at the back. It looks like it’ll keep its flush door handles and massive wheels.

There’s not much specifics to Honda’s battery electric SUV for now, but they did say that they’re “pursuing dynamic, yet smooth acceleration performance, and realized performance that enables the driver to feel the joy of driving in abundance.”

Honda has confirmed though that the Honda SUV e will be among the first models to gain the third-generation Honda Connect infotainment system. Not only does it offer advanced connectivity features including a sophisticated voice-recognition interface, but it will actually be updatable thanks to OTA or Over-The-Air updates.

In China, Honda will introduce 10 Honda-brand EV models within five years. The mass-production Honda SUV e is scheduled to go on sale early next year.
