Palace respects Senate reso vs Chinese incursions in West PH sea

By Prince Golez

Malacañang on Tuesday said it respects a Senate resolution condemning China’s illegal activities in the West Philippine Sea.

“The Palace respects that as the views of 11 policymakers of the country,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a televised briefing.

At least 11 senators signed Senate Resolution No. 708 denouncing the “unwarranted” Chinese incursion in the disputed sea.

Those who signed the resolution were Senators Franklin Drilon, Ralph Recto, Nancy Binay, Leila de Lima, Richard Gordon, Risa Hontiveros, Manuel Lapid, Francis Pangilinan, Grace Poe, Ramon Revilla, Jr. and Joel Villanueva.

“China should not be allowed to rewrite or nullify the UNCLOS, which was painstakingly negotiated and ratified by various States, as such blatant disregard of established international law not only has serious ramifications on a rules-based international order but likewise deprives Filipino fishermen of livelihood,” portion of the reso read.
