Confirmed! Duterte blindsides Pacquiao with Cusi order to hold PDP-Laban meeting

Senator Manny Pacquiao appears to have been left out of the loop by President Rodrigo Duterte on matters concerning PDP-Laban even if they’re two of the party’s top officials.

A memorandum obtained by Politiko dated May 17, 2021 confirmed it was Duterte who ordered Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi “to organize, convene and preside over the national council” meeting set for Monday (May 31).

Cusi is PDP-Laban’s vice chairman while Duterte is the chairman. Pacquiao serves as acting president.

The memo was signed by Duterte.

PDP-Laban executive director Ron Munsayac earlier disputed Malacañang’s statement that Duterte had a hand in the meeting, saying Pacquiao did not receive information about it.

“[I]f this purported council meeting is sanctioned by our Chairman, how come we have not received any formal communication from the Chairman/President Duterte, only an announcement from his Spokesperson who isn’t even a partymate,” Munsayac said on Sunday (May 30).

Pacquiao has advised party mates to boycott the meeting in Cebu, saying it’s not sanctioned under PDP-Laban rules.

The Cusi-led faction of PDP-Laban has been pushing for Duterte to run for vice president. Pacquiao, meanwhile, is widely believed to be gunning for the presidency.
