Antipolo City second district Rep. Resurreccion “Dra. Cion” Marrero Acop passed away Friday (May 28) due to complications caused by COVID-19. She was 73.
Acop is the wife of former Antipolo City Rep. Romeo Acop and mother of Antipolo City Councilor Philip Acop.
Romeo said he and his wife contracted COVID-19 in April. Rep. Acop was eventually rushed to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with pneumonia.
“I was told nagkaroon ng organ failure, ng multiple organ failure. Naapektuhan yung kidney nya, ganun ang nangyari,” he said in a phone interview.
The House of Representatives led by Speaker Lord Allan Jay Velasco and the Antipolo City government have mourned her demise.
“She will be remembered for her kindness, passion and commitment to selflessly serve the people of the 2nd district of Antipolo City,” the statement issued by the House read. “Our heartfelt prayers and sympathies to the family and loved ones she has left behind,…”
She is the seventh lawmaker who died in the 18th Congress. The others who passed away were LPGMA party-list Rep. Rodolfo Albano, Camarines Sur Rep. Marissa Andaya, Senior Citizens party-list Rep. Francisco Datol, Cebu Rep. Raul del Mar, Benguet Rep. Nestor Fongwan and Sorsogon Rep. Maria Bernardita Ramos.
