More than 4 million Covid-19 vaccine doses have been administered in the Philippines.
Data from the National Vaccination Operations Center showed that as of May 22, a total of 4,097,425 anti-COVID shots have been administered to the population.
On Sunday, National Task Force Against Covid-19 chief implementer and vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. said this achievement brings the government closer to its goal of achieving a daily vaccination rate of at least half a million and reaching herd immunity before year-end.
Galvez expressed confidence that once the inoculation of economic frontliners and indigenous population starts by June, “we will be able to double this figure and vaccinate more than four million people as long as there is a steady supply of vaccines.”
He likewise stressed the need to sustain the momentum and remain focused on ramping up the country’s vaccine supply and vaccination rate.
“This will be the key in saving more lives, putting an end to this pandemic, and revitalizing our economy,” the NTF chief said.
Based on a Bloomberg report, the Philippines ranks second out of 10 ASEAN member-states; 13th out 47 countries in Asia; and 37th out of 196 countries worldwide, in terms of total number of Covid-19 vaccines administered.
