Families of inmates should watch out for fake officials of the Board of Pardons and Parole (PBB), the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) warned.
“It has come to our attention that a new modus operandi of crooked individuals using the identities of Board of Pardons and Parole officials has been going around,” read BuCor’s latest advisory to the public.
“They’re informing PDL (persons deprived of liberty) family that they are about to be released from prison and then ask for money to pay for the PDL swab test,” it added.
BuCor issued the warning after having “already received 3 reports from PDL whose family has been victimized by the said hoax.”
“They were asked to pay an amount of 1,500 up to 5,000 pesos. Fortunately, the families were able to take a picture of the culprit,” it noted.
For its part, the agency reminded the public that “BuCor will not ask or solicit any amount for any purpose.”
“Please be vigilant in reporting illegal and suspicious activities such as this,” the Bucor advised.
