Tablado si Pacquiao! Palace confirms: Duterte behind PDP-Laban meeting by Cusi faction

President Rodrigo Duterte is sabotaging Senator Manny Pacquiao’s efforts to use PDP-Laban for his rumored presidential bid.

Malacañang on Sunday (May 30) confirmed Duterte’s hand in PDP-Laban’s May 31 national council meeting in Cebu. An invitation to the event has been sent by the party’s vice chairman, Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi, to members.

“Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi as Vice Chairman of the ruling party PDP-Laban was directed by President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, who serves as Chairman, to organize, convene and preside over the council meeting,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a statement.

“This move, which is part of the democratic exercise, aims to consult party members and have fruitful and productive exchanges on issues affecting PDP-Laban,” Roque added.

Pacquiao, PDP-Laban’s acting president, has advised party members to ignore Cusi’s invitation to attend the meeting because it is not sanctioned under their rules.

PDP-Laban’s Constitution states that the chairman and president should jointly call for a national meeting.

Expected to be discussed at the Cebu meeting are PDP-Laban’s political plans for 2022, including the possibility of Duterte running for vice president.
