Walang taguan! IBP: Pinoys should be informed of COVID-19 vax brand they’re getting

The government should always inform every individual what vaccine brand they are getting against the COVID-19 virus, reminded Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) President Domingo Egon Cayosa on Saturday (May 22).

Cayosa pointed this out after President Rodrigo Duterte decided to no longer publicly reveal what brands will be available in vaccination sites.

“Non prior public disclosure of vaccine brand may be a practical measure only to avoid delays, undue hedging and over-extended lines for a preferred brand in the government’s free vaccination program,” he said.

“It does not and should not take away the right to INFORMED CONSENT as the citizen must be individually appraised before vaccination about the brand and other details to enable him/her to intelligently consent to OR decline the offered vaccination,” Cayosa pointed out.

The IBP president said that even the Department of Health (DOH) has “publicly recognized the right to informed consent.”

“Let us support the many and perhaps better ways of encouraging vaccination. Creativity, clarity, consistency, transparency, sincerity, and unity will help us prevail. Let us help each other to overcome this pandemic,” the lawyer said.

Meanwhile, Cayosa urged that “the vulnerable sectors to have themselves vaccinated as their turn comes.”

“Let us all cooperate to protect ourselves, our loved ones, and our community and to achieve herd immunity against the COVID 19 virus,” he said.

“We call on all Filipino lawyers and IBP Chapters to help government and private institutions enlighten our countrymen and to show good example,” Cayosa added.

Let us support the many and perhaps better ways of encouraging vaccination. Creativity, clarity, consistency, transparency, sincerity, and unity will help us prevail. Let us help each other to overcome this pandemic.
