NCR Plus shift to MGCQ unlikely: Roque

Metro Manila, Bulacan, Rizal, Laguna, and Cavite — collectively known as NCR Plus – are still not ready to go back to modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) after June 15, Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said on Monday.

“Sa tingin ko po, hindi pa pupuwedeng mag-MGCQ. Dahil bagama’t bumaba na po ang ating reproductive rate, bumaba po ang ating healthcare utilization rate at hindi nga po siya even moderate risk ‘no, no risk at all. Ang problema po, mataas pa rin iyong actual numbers, hindi pa po tayo nakakabalik doon sa mga numero natin bago pumasok ang mga new variants,” Roque said in his interview on Unang Balita.

The Palace official said that NCR Plus, which is currently under general community quarantine (GCQ) with “heightened restrictions,” will likely transition to a “normal” GCQ.

“Bago kasi pumasok iyong mga new variants natin ay nasa 1,000 a day lang ang Metro Manila at hindi pa nga tayo umabot sa MGCQ iyong mga panahon na iyon. So ang nakikita ko po ay ordinaryong GCQ, pero sa tingin ko po mukhang malabo pa iyong MGCQ,” he added.

The government’s Covid-19 task force is scheduled to meet today, Monday to discuss their recommendation on the new quarantine classifications.
